Faith

Faith has power, especially against the encroaching darkness. Demons and vampires fear those who hold true faith in God (vampires in fact fear all that is holy, not just the Abrahamic God, for they are truly forsaken), as do some more obscure supernatural creatures. In addition, true faith can grant someone the ability to see the unseen (Angels or other holy beings, divine apparitions), perform miracles, or resist the supernatural powers of evil.

Faith is represented by Traits representing True Faith, to be filled in as development of this game continues. It works mostly in the same way as magic, but performing miracles does not inherently require any sort of skill roll. God does not need the dice. Having knowledge of scripture (the skill) however, may allow a character insights into the nature of holy and unholy beings, and additional ability to defeat them or resist their powers.

Example Traits:

- True Faith: This character is a bearer of true faith in their religion. Supernatural enemies of their religion suffer Disadvantage 1 when attacking them, and certain abilities (such as a vampire's hypnosis) do not work. Holy symbols wielded by characters of True Faith repulse enemies of their religion. (For Abrahamic religions this is traditional; for a worshiper of the Greek pantheon, for example, Titanic creatures would be considered such enemies)

- Vampire Killer: This character is a mystically selected vampire slayer. Vampiric weaknesses are amplified when exploited by these characters, and holy weapons gain additional powers against vampires. In mechanical terms, a vampire in the presence of one of these slayers struck by sunlight, forced into running water, or staked through the heart is instantly destroyed. Any weapon wielded by a slayer is considered holy, and prevents a vampire from regenerating wounds caused by them until the next sunset. Weapons that are already holy wielded by a slayer grant the slayer advantage 1 on all attacks, and have additional powers made available, depending on the weapon. This trait is acquired only at birth, and only by those born female among western Europeans. There is a rumour of an old Transylvanian clan whose men still bear this power, but their line has disappeared for centuries.

- Faith Healing: This character can perform miracles of healing, either through speech, laying on of hands, or bearing a holy object. In game terms, a character with the Faith Healing ability can perform a religious rite for a minimum of one minute and remove 1 wound from a single character, or 1 common affliction from any number of characters who can participate in the rite. Requires True Faith.
